CM Summit - Federated Media Publishing Get Satisfaction

We were alerted yesterday that our Google Reader Extension (both the extension and the Greasemonkey script) had suddenly stopped working on Google Reader.

Not that the functionality was there but unresponsive; that the functionality wasn’t showing up at all. (Definitely a problem.)

We’re currently looking into the issue, and suspect a code change on Google’s end. As soon as things are debugged, we’ll let everyone know that the Google Reader Extension should be back in business.

We’re gearing up for a big update of the AideRSS website (stay tuned!), which means we need to do some maintenance.

This means we will be briefly suspending serving up web pages and API requests so we can update our database to be way more awesome. (That’s not exactly the technical explanation…)

The website, extensions, widget, and API-enabled functionality will briefly stop working at 11am tomorrow (Feb. 19th). We’re planning for the maintenance to only take about 10 minutes. Our apologies for the inconvenience!

After about noon (12pm EST), if you see any erratic behavior on our website or with the extensions, widget, or API-enabled functionality, please let us know so we can fix it ASAP!

We appreciate your patience. :)

Good news!

We have fixed:

a) postrank.com running slowly
b) delays/slowness in adding new feeds to the system, and
c) feed added notifications not being sent.

It will mean a few folks who’ve added a bunch of feeds to our system will get a batch of notifications — sorry about that.

Of course, if you observe any additional quirks and such, please let us know.

We’re having a back-end issue that’s currently affecting the PostRank Firefox extension, which may cause a browser slow-down, as well as some alerts, potentially (repeated delivery).

We’re working on it and will update once things are behaving properly again.

Update: This has been fixed and should be working correctly now. Of course, if you continue to see any odd behaviour, please let us know.

The devs did a passel o’ work recently on our PostRank extensions for Google Reader and Firefox.

The coolest improvement is that Google Reader with the PostRank extension installed should be way faster now. (In the past it would get progressively slower on big lists.)

Additionally, we’ve fixed the issue where folks with the extensions installed weren’t receiving notifications that there were updates available. Once you update the extension, you should receive notifications the same as for other extensions and plugins.

There was also a weird little bug where on rare occasions the “PostRank fetch failed” message pop-up would get stuck and basically lock up the Firefox browser. We’re pretty sure we’ve licked that one, but it’s so rare we’re having trouble reproducing it. (So if it happens to you still after you’ve upgraded the extension, please let us know.)
